The Chateau Gallery’s second annual still life exhibition. From ancient Greco-Roman artworks to Dutch vanitas paintings, still life has permeated art history for ages. Show us your most inimitable or transformative scenes of inanimate objects. What contemporary elaborations do you add to this lasting genre of imagery? Between wilting flowers and bowls of oranges, what do you bring to the table?

Illuminated by natural light. Residing in Berkeley, California, I collect small domestic objects and create arrangements that exist only to be photographed. Vyncex Gorlami is a multidisciplinary visual artist with a focus on documenting the contemporary through the lens of alternative media. Living and working in Louisville, Kentucky, Vyncex defines his style of photography as social documentary photojournalism, cycling between both independent and mainstream media. "by," Allen Morris, 2020, 16" x 20" Archival Pigment Print - $400. These images combine Lumen Printing, a technique that capitalizes on the light-sensitive nature of gelatin silver paper combined with the effects of ultraviolet light and the chemical influences of soil to create an ephemeral image that remains sensitive to light and other environmental factors. "My Life Is In Your Hands," Kerra Taylor, 2019, 7" x 7" Oil on Wood Panel - $625. I am confronted with old age and my personal fear of dying. Like a nagging depression and heavy weight, this is how I carry that burden around with me. Kerra Taylor’s narrative, figurative paintings have been exhibited nationally, internationally and featured in multiple publications. As per-course faculty, she currently teaches beginning and intermediate drawing courses at Missouri State University. On her own time, she really enjoys submitting work to shows, giving artist talks, and leading painting workshops.

"Jason and Medea's Flawed Kitchen," Danielle Byington, 2021, 9" x 12" Watercolor and Acrylic on Watercolor Paper - $300. The forced compatibility of these domestic staples in both the wallpaper and the cut flowers intends to echo the faulty domestic bliss in Jason and Medeas marriage, leaving the audience to find understanding about the couples scenario. - Danielle Byington, Johnson City, Tennessee

Strange and surprising combinations of imagery are meant to create a tension between what is and isn’t considered beautiful and normal, or revolting and undesirable. My hope is that they inspire and invite some cross-cultural comparisons. The compositions are frontal, discomforting, and intrusive to achieve psychological expression, but also to create an element of humor and fun. - Heidi Brueckner, Oakland, California.
